Last Friday, after 3 years of trying, we finally got the incredible Feist to perform on Black Cab Sessions. Meeting on a beautiful sunny afternoon in Brompton, we found Leslie and two members of the excellent Mountain Man sitting on the steps of their hotel running through their song they were to perform. Greeted with huge smiles, we shot the breeze with them until our cabbie turned up. Strictly speaking, we dont really allow more than 3 performers in the back seat, if the police caught us, we’d be in serious trouble… But this was an exception. They had worked out their 3 part harmony along with some light percussion and it was to be 4 performers in the back. Sound man and camera man ducked down to avoid any run ins with the beast. Once all in side, we had a quick sound check - incredibly powerful voices accompanied by some amazing energy from all of them, we set off on our journey, using the sights of Hyde Park as the back drop.
As you can see in the video above, they managed to perform the song ‘Undiscovered First’ to perfection. Menacing harmonies and stamping feet meant the cab received a bit of a beating, but the cabbie didnt mind. He was loving it!
So after 3 years of trying, we finally got to spend some time with Leslie who turned out to be one of the nicest, down to earth artists we’ve ever encountered on Black Cab Sessions. We said our goodbyes and spoke of working together again in the future - perhaps the cab will go to her hometown of Toronto for series 2 of Black Cab Sessions TV show?!!? Who knows… Until then, just enjoy this amazing performance.
